Frequently, I'd stop off for a game after "Midget League" (a not-so-savvy name for a city kids league) practice at the "Horse Lot" in the City Park, tool around the dugout side of the field to catch an autograph or two, chase foul balls or buy packs of baseball cards from the concession stand. Anything to be inside and enjoy a game.

When you're a kid, your personal universe is so small. To this day, I'll never forget just how "big" that small, rural, Appalachian League baseball field seemed to be. How iconic it is. Interesting, too, that it's very representative of Bluefield. In my mind it'll always be the biggest stadium in the world in one of the region's best places to grow up in in the 70s and 80s. Even going back today, it's hard to ignore the big tug that sentiment has on me -- despite the harsh economic reality of Bluefield.

It's easy to ramble. I'll join you in the nostalgia. Ramble on! Keep on Ramblin'!Stevenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17936016261168520491noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22156824.post-34632934249219329602007-06-05T11:02:00.000-04:002007-06-05T11:02:00.000-04:00Oh, the days of Juan (Lose) Mercedes.Oh, the days of Juan (Lose) Mercedes.Christopherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05503120317139858666noreply@blogger.com
