I love those old cemeteries. Often the ones in the mountains have clusters of tiny graves, a testimony to how difficult it was then to make it through childhood.
That cemetery is in the middle of nowhere. A forest service road is nearby, but not much else. A friend of mine has a GPS and he downloaded some hiking points and that's how we found it. It's tough to tell from the picture, but there are a few modern looking stones there. I have a close up of one stone and the date of death was April 5, 1935. He was three years old.

ReplyDeleteI know this place. We used to call it little stoney or something like that. It is outside of Coeburn VA...
ReplyDeleteI don't have my hiking map handy, but I'm pretty sure the cemetery is not too far from Hot Springs, NC.
