So, here's a picture of the mountains for your viewing pleasure...You're looking from the Appalachian Trail near Dragon's Tooth over the Catawba Valley of Roanoke County, Va. Salem is just over the mountain "hump" to the center-right of the picture. North Mountain and Craig County are to the far left.
